Subscribing users who created accounts through the iphone app
  • petkanicspetkanics September 2010

I created a simple app to send fantasy football news update notifications to subscribed users, and two different people who have been trying to use it have had the same problem with getting set up on the iphone...

They both created their notifo accounts through the iphone app. I then subscribed them to my service (first through my actual app, then when that didn't seem to work through the subscribe console). Neither of them received the notification to approve my app through notifo. One logged in to notifo.com and approved it through there, however even after he approved it he wasn't receiving notifications to his phone from my app. He would however see them on notifo.com.

Sounds as if signup through the iphone client is giving some trouble to these users. Unfortunately they aren't early adopter types with a penchant for troubleshooting, nor are they located in close proximity to me in order for me to debug the issue. I believe that upon installing notifo client they did approve the initial popup asking permission to receive push notifications from notifo. Just posting here to see if anyone else has had a similar experience or if there are known issues with account signup through the client?

Feel free to contact me offline at petkanics@gmail.com to troubleshoot my service if necessary. Thanks!

I'll follow up with an email for more info, but this is a known issue for a small subset of users (across all OS versions, oddly). The short answer is to try to have them log out of the app, then log back in which should reset all of the settings and properly sync it up with the server.
